"Back in 1998 at St. Anthony’s Church, looking through the archival picture collection of the parish, I noticed that the apse of the church, at this time painted over in a flat blueish colour, was originally adorned by a gigantic fresco of Christ the King surrounded by the symbols of four evangelists. It was an imposing artwork that complemented the architectural style of the church. The big question, then, became to see if the artwork was still there and if could it be restored. Around that time, I had met Carlos Nunes and needing the opinion of a “specialist,” I approached him about the whole project, he answered enthusiastically.
The rest is history. Not only did Carlos restore the beautiful frescoes, but also enhanced its colours and imagery. He remedied some unclear details, enriched the narrative of the pictures by bringing back the rich symbols not only of the main images, but also of the varied decorations that complement the whole frescoes.
